The Canon series
These small square watercolors have been a way of reasserting for myself some of the virtues of the western painterly tradition. Each was inspired by a nostalgic revisiting of an artistic icon from centuries past: the three present examples refer to Titian/Giorgione’sConcert Champêtre, Ingres’ Portrait of the Painter Granet, and the small body of late19th-century Neo-Impressionist and Fauve landscapes featuring views of L’Estaque.
